Universal monsters Teenage mutant ninja turtles!

Ok Im not going to lie ..I have Turtle envy. Everybody has the new Ninja turtles and I cant find them and they will almost without doubt be more than Im willing to pay for them when I do find them. So instead of being completely left out of the turtle blogging fun I decided to bust out my old favorites.

The Universal monster turtles are my favorite alternative versions of the turtles. I also have Frankenstein but in the process of getting these guys down he fell behind the bookcase and became firmly wedged in place.

    1. Ha! I will get him out someday. At least as long as he is back there I will never misplace him like I seem to do with so many other things. These guys (in my opinion) are easier to get a hold of than the new guys but due to the fact that these are 20 years old now they can be a little on the pricey side.

  2. These are indubitably the set of turtles I would love to someday get my hands on. There's another set too, with Donatello as Dracula, Raphael as the Mummy, the Michael Angelo as the Invisible Man, and an April as the Bride of Frankenstein. I'd love to get my hands on all 8. Looking at some of the weirder variants, you have to love the bizarre chutzpah on display.

I can't even tell you how frustrating I find it to lose something behind the shelf/desk/whatever. Especially if it's something you can't get your hand behind, and even MORE if it's something you cannot budge whatsoever.

The new Turtles (in my area at least) are the best price at Wal-Mart. I paid 7.77 a piece for mine (in Maine). More than a dollar cheaper than if I had gone to TRU when they first appeared. I really like them, but am now wondering if I would really have DIED had I not picked them up.

    1. The mummy is one I plan on getting sooner or later as is the Invisible man but Im not real fond of the Dracula. I have the April bride of Frankenstein but she is truly not worth the effort to dig out because in person she is a terrible figure. Yeah he is back well beyond my reach, I can hit him with the broom handle but he doesn't move even a little and Im afraid to rub the pain off of his face by messing with it to much. Ill have to make the call on the new ones once I have them right in front of me but 7.77 isn a bad price considering what I was paying for the dc universe classics.

  3. Oh don't pay marked up prices on the secondary market for the new Turtles! They are slowly starting to fill up in stores. Walmart is the latest to have the new Turtles. The Classics are harder to find right now, but TRU had them and will more than likely get more. They are fun.

Nothing beats the old ones though. I never had these specific ones, but I did have the April Bride of Frankenstein toy. She isn't my favorite April, but the concept was really fun for this series!

    1. If I was going to over pay for something Im positive it wouldn't be the new Ninja turtles (to many other over priced items I want lol).I haven't decided if I want to get the classics or not yet, I probably wont make up my mind on that one till Im facing the decision at the store.
Yeah The Bride April is defiantly not my favorite and admiringly I only bought her because I found her for $2.00 free shipping mint in pack.I dont even have her on display.

  4. I never collected or had any Turtles growing up. But the new ones do look cool as do your Monster versions.

    1. I was already a teenager when they came out.I rarely hear people in the right age category say they never had them so its a surprise to meet somebody who didn't succumb to turtle mania.

    2. I mean I loved the cartoon and the movies, but the toys never stuck to me.

    3. Thats understandable,It was years after the fact that I decided to collect them all and not just a few characters here and there.

    1. Id hate to get rid of these guys, I think even if I let go of the rest of my ninja turtles I would still keep these guys.

  8. Really cool figures! I never had turtles as a kid, and now I'd like to get a few (the main characters at least), but they're very difficult to find complete with all weapons... Some figures (like those three), however, look better without all that loud coloured bits.

    1. I agree with you on that , the weapons for these guys are garish and distract from the coolness of the figures. The old basic 4 are almost always missing something when you get them loose but Im not to picky about the completeness of them as long as I have the figure.

    2. In my collection there are few that I feel the need to have 'complete with weapons,' since the figures display so well without them (often) and the weapons tended to be a bit garish (very often!)

    3. truthfully the only fully complete turtles I have are still in the pack.I will almost always buy them with no accessory because they are way way cheaper incomplete.

  9. Hmm, your Black Lagoon Leo is also nude. I sense a theme ;)

j/k - I have the first bunch (Frankenstein's monster Mike, Mummy Raph, Dracula Don and Werewolf Leo) thanks to jBoy, and need to find the second bunch that includes the Mutant and Lagoon Leo you have there! I've been holding out on blogging about mine until October.

    1. You caught me , Im secretly running a toy nudist colony. lol I need to get the mummy Im just waiting for the right price to come around and Im not really sure if I want the Dracula. My Frankenstein is still living between the wall and the bookcase and I dont see that ever changing at this point.
