A taste of the past

Some foods permanently imprint their taste on your brain and When a food goes the way of the dinosaurs you may find yourself with a craving that only a time machine can sooth . These are a few of those tastes that are now lost to time.

Nestles alpine white. These maybe what led to my first cavity

Sundance Fruit Juice Sparklers .I can find very little about these drinks .They just disappeared one day  like so many other things I liked.

Fruit island cereal. seems like it was only sold for about 1 year ..but what a great year it was.

Hi-C ecto cooler. I would get this stuff in he big plastic gallon size.

McDonald's Arch deluxe. I loved it but I guess I was the only one

Micro Magic Milkshake: They had a strange taste that haunts my taste buds

undercover bears oatmeal: I would more often than not eat this stuff the wrong way..

Swanson's tv dinners in the aluminum tray. These things had a taste that just isnt the same as the new plastic microwave kind we have today. I still have a strangely shaped scar from being burned by one of the trays fresh from the stove.

Fruit and Creme Twinkies. They had strawberry in them. These things should have never gone away

Keebler's Magic Middles. I went looking for these a couple of years ago and couldnt find them in store .Came home and found out they dont make them any more. It was a sad day.

  1. Confession: When I was like 5 or 6, I stole a candy bar from the Woolworth's (remember that store??) that used to be at my local mall. Guess what it was? A Nestle Alpine White. I had already eaten it by the time my mom found out and punished me.

I can't say I've ever had Sundance Fruit Sparklers, Micro-Magic vanilla shakes (ew), or Fruit Islands cereal, but everything else on this list I miss too.

The Arch Deluxe was delicious, but it had a stupid marketing campaign that was likely its cause of death. My own personal McDonald's holy grail is The Cheddar Melt.

And you're right--there's just something about those TV dinners in the old aluminum trays that made them taste better. People think I'm crazy when I tell them soda tastes better out of a can than it does a plastic bottle. Oh well.

    1. Strangely enough the thing I was caught stealing as a young child was a pack of Aquaman underoos. My parents spanked the idea of stealing right out of me and they still bring up the fact that I was trying to steal Aquaman underwear. I liked the McDonald's Cheddar Melt as well , It seems like it wasn't to incredibly long ago that I had one. Soda is absolutely better in a can or at least its sweeter.

  2. You know before I opened Monster Cafe I had read about a guy I think in Minnesota that opened up a restaurant that only served Swanson TV dinners at $8 a pop. He had TV´s everywhere showing retro shows etc. So we visited Texas to see and I was so disappointed to find out it was only plastic trays now. Idea dropped.

    1. No thank you lol I think if he was going to do it he should have done it right and got the aluminum. The selection of food in the plastic trays isnt even as good. No cherry cobbler no sell.

    1. I dont think either of the 2 you dont remember lasted very long I just remember them blasting the commercials over and over during afternoon cartoons.I think most people born before a certain year have at least one fond memory of the old tv dinners.

  4. I lived for the Hi-C Ecto Coolers. my goodness they were o good. I also loved the Arch Deluxe! lol I do remember that being a big deal and then in a flash it was gone. I also really loved Magic Middles. I can't believe they are gone!?

One candy bard commercial that I always liked was the Whatchamacallit, or however the heck it is spelled. There were also some good chocolate slim cupckaes that had fudge in the title and the icing had ridges and it was different flavrs of chocolate. They were so good.

    Great post!

    1. Thanks! I remember when the Arch deluxe was new I got a coupon for a fee one and I was hooked. Yeah no more magic middles unfortunately and there isnt even anything close to them available. I used to also like these Keebler cookies in the shape of a cartoon grasshopper that they dont make anymore.
Oh yeah whatchamacallit whatever it is whatever it was lol Im not sure about the cupcakes but it kind of sounds like a Zinger.

  5. Ermahgerd! I'd forgotten all about Nestle Alpine. I loved those!

I think I tried the MicroMagic shakes but don't really remember. I lived on their fries for a number of years as a kid with whatever brand chicken nuggets I ate.

Ecto-Cooler, oh Ecto-Cooler. We hardly knew ye...Hawaiian Punch's Lemon Lime Splash is probably the closest thing on the market to it now. I'm not saying it's perfect...

    1. The Alpine white bars just vanished from the market.I remember that the IGA brand ice cream had a Nestles Alpine White flavor that I can find nothing about.I think I only had the French fries a couple of times. Ecto-Cooler was on the market for so long that I just took it for granted that it might go away.It really was on the shelves one day and gone the next.
