The Toxic Crusaders were released by Playmates in 1991 and based on the cartoon of the same name. The cartoon lasted only 13 episodes and was based on live action Toxic Avenger movies from Troma Entertainment (that was in no way child friendly).
These guys are pretty much a perfect example of the early 90's with their bright neon colors and Ninja Turtle like construction.
The only one I had was that fat green guy. I used him as my early Mojo from the Xmen.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention Mojo , I was looking through some boxes earlier today and came a cross the old toybiz Xmen/Xforce Mojo figure that I had absolutely no idea I still owned.
DeleteI just traveled back to childhood so fast i got whiplash. I still have the one in the yellow suit and gas mask in my mom's attic.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right about the Ninja Turtle comparison. In the 90's toxic waste was the coolest thing ever.
Im glad I was able to give you a little nostalgic trip! I always hope Im can evoking a happy memory in somebody with my posts.
DeleteThere sure was a lot of toxic waste in the 90's maybe it will make a comeback someday :)
Those were fun toys. Guess they still are.
ReplyDeleteI think they are fun. They look cool on a shelf.
DeleteRadiation Ranger was always my favorite figure from this line. I must have got him on 3 separate occasions. These days, I only have Toxie, and he's missing one of his eyes(he only cost a quarter though).
ReplyDelete"They're gross...but they still get girls."
Radiation Ranger is a great figure! I used him just like a foot solder with my ninja turtles,Between my brother and me we had 5 of him.
DeleteHey for a quarter you cant go wrong, You could buy a bottle of tat glow in the dark glue and make him a new eye.
I never has any of the figures, but I read the Toxic Avenger comic book.
ReplyDeleteIv thought about picking those up but still haven't decided if I want them.
DeleteI currently have four of these (but not Toxie!). The great thing about the 80s and 90s was that no matter how violent a film was, it'd end up with a cartoon and/or toyline based on it.
ReplyDeleteIf the Saw films were made in 1992, there'd be a Saturday morning cartoon based on them!
Ha! Tales from Uncle Jigsaw ..That sounds terrifying but awesome.
DeleteAlways like the bright color of these but it was always crazy to me that would make a kid friendly show and toy line based off the Toxic Avenger movies considering how violent and mature they were.
ReplyDeleteThat was my thoughts exactly
DeleteHA! They just look soooo cool !! Those are probably pretty nice conversation pieces on display!
ReplyDeleteThey do catch the eye on a shelf .They are a lot brighter in person then the pics show.
DeleteGotta love Troma! I remember these and was like, "I never thought we'd see these in a store. Ever." Love it!
ReplyDeleteI was pretty shocked when I first saw them myself. I was completely familiar with the movies thanks to Cinemax late nights and parents that went to bed really early lol.
DeleteWhoa!
ReplyDeleteWe want them all!!!
AAhHAhAH!!
So far we own 3 and the bike.
